The "Pill" Continued

 

 

Well, the JHM was concerned about the number of men getting Viagra via the Internet and agreed to license it. However, they realized that by allowing the impotence drugs, they would have to acquiesce on the birth control issue. But why the delay in the first place? According to New Woman Magazine (May 1999), the Japanese Health Ministry gave the Pill had such a delayed approval because it was concerned the drug would increase promiscuity and thereby spread disease.

What role has the United States played in influencing this issue? Many critics have cited Japan as fearing a "sexual revolution" similar to what ocurred in the U.S. after the introduction of the Pill. But most notably, it is interesting to see that Japan the only industrialized nation not to have legalized the Pill. However, within the nation, there were very few groups that have opposed authorities in a vocal manner, until the legalization of Viagra.
