SANTA BARBARA, CA—The Michigan women's lacrosse team extended their Shootout record to 2-1 against Brigham Young University and Georgia.
After losing to BYU last year, the Wolverines took revenge in a sudden death overtime. It remained a close game through its entirety as Michigan and BYU battled back and forth for the lead. The first half ended with the Wolverines up by only one, but BYU took a late lead of three in the second half.
Fortunately, Michigan scored the final three unanswered goals to tie it up and had the momentum when time expired. The game went on to 2 3-minute overtime periods, and sophomore Julianne Patterson scored the go-ahead goal that turned out to be the game-winner as the Michigan defense held strong, keeping BYU scoreless in the OT period.
The Wolverines then faced the Georgia Bulldogs where their two-game winning streak came to an end. Georgia scored the first three goals of the game and the half ended 5-3 in the Bulldogs' favor.
Michigan was able to match them goal for goal in the second half, but it wasn't enough to surpass the two goal differential marked in the first. It was Michigan's first loss of the weekend, but they have one last chance for a win in their final game tomorrow against returning National Champions, Colorado State University, before heading home.
