Next UM Event: Saturday March 30, 2013 in Boulder, CO at the Mile High Tournament against Colorado State, 7:00 PM MST
Boulder, CO- The UC-Santa Clara Broncos dominated the draw and relied on excellent goaltending to give them the win over the Michigan Wolverines. It was a low scoring affair that favored the Broncos, as they controlled time of possession.
Michigan struck first, taking an early 1-0 lead but it was Santa Clara that scored the next 4 goals, forcing Michigan to make some moves to get back in the game. The Wolverines managed to do just that as they scored 2 goals late in the 1st half to be down just 1 at the half, 4-3.
Michigan scored first in the 2nd half, but unfortunately, the ball went into their own net on a defensive miscue, giving Santa Clara a 2-goal lead. However, after scoring and then a getting free position goal by Ellen Manson, the game was all tied up, 5-5. After each team scored another goal, tying the game again at 6, UCSC scored a late goal, leading to the Wolverines to pull their goalie to try to get an advantage and even the score once more.
However, the Broncos were the ones to take advantage scoring an empty net goal to take a two goal lead and eventual victory. The Wolverines had opportunities late in the game but several key saves by the Santa Clara goalie turned away their attempts.
With only 2 games remaining for Michigan at the Mile High Invitational, they look to turn things around as they face #1 Colorado State later this evening.
