Interview
Ann Arbor, MI --
It didn't take long for Michigan (8-2) to get on the
board against Northwestern (1-4) in its fourth and final
game of the weekend tournament. Senior
Alexis Pavle (Grosse
Pointe/Grosse Pointe South) found the net just :14 into
the contest sending Michigan on its way to a 10-1
victory as they finished the weekend a perfect 4-0. The
Wolverines scored the first seven goals of the contest
before the Wildcats could even carry the ball into its
offensive zone. Most of the team got into the action as
playing time was spread throughout the roster.
Rachel Lary (San Diego,
CA/Torrey Pines), Erin Conroy
(Chicago, IL/Loyola Academy) and
Amy Johnson (Washington,
D.C./Holton-Arms) all notched two goals in the game.
With Northwestern
playing one girl down and quickly out of hand, Michigan
used the game to get some of the younger players
experience and to work on the things that they usually
spend practice time on. Northwestern only managed two
shots on goal all game as nearly all of the action was
controlled by Michigan in the Wildcat's zone.
After carrying an 8-1
lead at the intermission, the Wolverines spent the
second half working on their passing, moving the ball
around the perimeter of the Wildcat defense, only
scoring twice in the half. Wildcat goalie, Shivanni
Banker played well in goal against the barrage of shots
fired her direction by the Michigan attackers. Banker, a
freshman, played on the Michigan high school state
runner-up team last season.
The Wolverines will
next be in action on Tuesday, March 10th when they visit
Oakland University with the opening draw scheduled for 9
PM.
Game Notes:
Johnson kept her multi-goal streak intact as she now has
two or more goals in five straight games...Michigan and
Michigan State were the only two teams in the tournament
to post perfect 4-0 records on the weekend...Michigan is
now 6-0 at Oosterbaan this season...Due to technical
difficulties, first half audio will not be
available...Michigan's next home game will be Sunday,
March 22nd at 8 PM against inner-state rival, #14
Michigan State
Quotes:
Senior
Defense/Midfielder Micaela Battiste: I think overall
it went well, I think that we were trying to incorporate
a lot more shots...Amy Johnson went behind the back,
some risers, we were trying to have some fun out there.
On going undefeated
in the tournament: It feels great, we always come
into any tournament, any game thinking we're going to
win. We came into this tournament thinking we're going
to go 4-0 this weekend and that's exactly what we did.
