Pontiac, MI -- On a
cold and dreary night, Michigan (9-2, 5-0) took care of
business, defeating Oakland University (0-1) by a score
of 13-5 at All-American Lacrosse in Pontiac, MI.
Delaney Kempner
(Bethesda, MD/Sidwell Friends School),
Rachel Lary (San Diego,
CA/Torrey Pines), and Julie
Baskind (Framington, MA/Framingham) all scored two
goals to lead the Wolverine offense.
Once the Wolverines
built up a commanding 9-2 halftime lead, Michigan used
the second half to work on their movement on offense,
holding the ball and making several passes before
attempting a shot. The patient offense resulted in some
beautiful passing and a pair of one-timers.
Amy Johnson's
(Washington, D.C./Holton-Arms) one-time attempt from
Micaela Battiste
(Flint, MI/Grand Blanc) was denied by Oakland's goalie
before Ani Shekerjian
(Bloomfield Hills, MI/Detroit Country Day) poked home
her fifth goal of the season off a quick pass from
Kempner. Michigan's concerted effort to pass the ball in
order to set up shots showed up in the stats as the
official scorer credited assists on seven of the
thirteen goals.
After playing four
games in five days, the Wolverines will enjoy a much
deserved break before their next game on Sunday, March
22nd when Michigan State comes to town.
Game Notes: Amy
Johnson and Britt Boehm both saw their goal streak
snapped at five games...Amy Santoriello remains out of
action due to injury and is expected to miss the next
two weeks of action...The game took just over an hour to
play as the teams agreed to use a running clock.
