ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In its final
home game of the 2010 season, No. 12-ranked Michigan (7-4)
defeated Oakland University (8-1) 23-5 . It was the last
game in Oosterbaan Fieldhouse for the Wolverines' four
seniors: Arielle Dyner
(Livingston, N.J./Livingston),
Amy Johnson
(Washington, D.C./Holton-Arms),
Amy Santoriello
(Westfield, N.J./Westfield) and
Ame Maturo (Ann
Arbor, Mich./Greenhills).
The seniors combined to score five
goals and assist on four others. The game completes a
four-year span of home games in which Michigan amassed a
perfect 24-0 record.
Freshman
Sam Zetlin (Framingham,
Mass./Framingham) put Michigan on the board early on a
free-position goal to push her scoring streak to
11-consecutive games. Zetlin finished the game with three
goals, marking her ninth game with multiple goals this
season and her sixth hat-trick of the year.
Oakland tied the game at 1-1 at the
27:50 mark but then Michigan went on a 12-0 run to open a
13-1 lead on the second goal of the game from sophomore
Ifat Ribon (Ann
Arbor, Mich./Huron).
The Wolverines led 14-2 at the
intermission, paced by three goals from Zetlin and two from
Ribon. Eleven different players scored in the opening half
for Michigan.
After the Golden Grizzlies scored the
opening goal of the second period, the Wolverines rattled
off eight-straight goals to open up their biggest lead of
the game at 22-3. Oakland added two goals in the closing
minutes to make the final score 23-5.
On senior night, it was a freshman who
led the team in scoring.
Jane Petoskey (Ann
Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) netted a career-high four goals
while adding an assist. Junior
Amanda Schutte (San
Diego, Calif./La Costa Canyon) recorded her second
hat-trick in as many games with three goals. Junior
tri-captain Britt Boehm
(Rocky River, Ohio/Magnificat), Johnson, Ribon
and Santoriello all scored two goals apiece.
Michigan will have nearly two weeks off
before its next set of games at the Lindenwood Invitational
April 9-11 in St. Louis, Missouri. The Wolverines will take
on #3 Lindenwood, #1 Santa Clara, Minnesota and #13 Virginia
Tech over the three-day tournament.
Game Notes: Twelve different
players scored goals for Michigan just two nights after 13
different players scored against Western Michigan...Johnson's
two goal s and one assist now give her 144 goals and 36
assists for 180 career points. She is the program's all-time
leader in goals and points and now is just three assists
behind Jane Friend for the career assist record.
