Wolverines Receive National Honors
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team earned some rather impressive honors at this year's USL-WDIA National Championship Tournament. Head Coach Mary Ann Meltzer was named the USL-WDIA Coach of the Year for the second straight season, while sophomore Becca Miller won Defensive Player of the Year, and freshman Amy Johnson won Rookie of the Year.
Wolverines Close Season with 18-10 loss to BYU
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team dropped their season finale in a consolation match to Brigham Young by a score of 18-10 on Saturday (May 12). The Wolverines fell behind 11-3 after the first half and were never able to catch up, despite better play in the second half. Senior Noelle Frazier paced the squad with four goals, while freshman goaltender Liz Mennen made 12 saves in the contest.
Michigan Dominates Spartans 17-6
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team erupted on Friday (May 11), defeating the Michigan State Spartans in the first of two consolation games the team will play in the next two days. Behind five goals from Alexis Pavle and four from from fellow sophomore Rachel Lary, the Maize and Blue earned a bit of revenge on MSU, who defeated Michigan in the WCLL Conference Championships. Freshman Maggie Preketes was also stellar, scooping up seven groundballs, while earning five draw controls. Michigan will play Brigham Young tomorrow afternoon at 11:00am MST.
U-M Suffers Heart-Breaking Loss to Colorado State in Quarters
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team saw their season come to an end on Thursday (May 10), losing to Colorado State 16-15 in the quarterfinal round of the USL-WDIA National Championship Tournament. The Wolverines led 11-9 at half-time, but CSU was able to claw back and eventually scored the game-winner with just 11 seconds left to secure the victory. Michigan will take on rival Michigan State in a consolation game tomorrow morning at 9:00am MST.
Wolverines Double Up Pitt 12-6 in WDIA Opener
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team jumped out to an 8-3 half-time lead and held on down the stretch, defeating Pittsburgh 12-6 in the USL-WDIA National Championship opening round. Michigan was led by Rachel Lary and Alexis Pavle who each notched three goals in the contest. Michigan will face Colorado State in the quarterfinal round tomorrow afternoon at 1:00pm MST. Wolverines Make the Dance with At-Large Bid
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team was awarded an at-large bid on Monday afternoon for the USL-WDIA National Championship Tournament that is being held in Denver, CO from May 9-12. The Wolverines enter as a #5 seed, and will take on the #12 seed, Pittsburgh, a fellow WCLL team.
Michigan Suffers Second-Straight WCLL Championship Loss
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team suffered their second straight loss in the WCLL Championship game, this time, falling to Michigan State by a score of 9-6. After breezing through their first two games of the tournament in the morning and in the early afternoon, Michigan stumbled out of the gates vs. the Spartans and was never able to draw even. Wolverines Finish Off Weekend With a Win
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team earned a victory in their final game of their three-game Southern California trip, dominating UC-Santa Clara by a score of 18-6 on Sunday afternoon (April 15). The Wolverines built a 13-3 half-time lead and never looked back. Sophomore Alexis Pavle led all scorers with four goals, while senior Noelle Frazier, sophomore Micaella Battiste, and freshman Amy Johnson both notched three tallies. Freshman Amy Santoriello also had an impressive day, adding four assists. Fellow freshman Maggie Preketes had an excellent all-around effort, scoring two goals, grabbing six draw controls, while scooping up six groundballs. Freshman goaltender Liz Mennen recorded eight saves on the day.
Cal-Poly Defeats Michigan by Smallest of Margins
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team dropped a 10-9 contest to rival Cal-Poly on Saturday night (April 14). The Wolverines held a 6-1 lead at half-time, and quickly added another after the half, but Cal-Poly was able to chip the lead away in the second half, scoring the go-ahead goal with just over a minute left in the game. Michigan will look to grab at least one win on their Southern California trip when they battle Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon at noon.
U-M Drops First Game of Southern California Trip
Michigan lost their first in a series of three games this weekend, falling 13-3 to University of California - Santa Barbara on Friday night, (April 13). Maggie Preketes had two goals, while Noelle Frazier tallied the other lone goal for the Wolverines who will look to bounce back when they take on six-time National Champion Cal Poly on Saturday. Cal-Poly defeated Michigan last season in the USL-WDIA National Championship game by a score of 12-7.
Five-Goal Surge Lead U-M past State
Michigan captured it's 12th win of the season on Saturday (March 24), defeating rival #16 Michigan State by a score of 12-7 in Ann Arbor, Michigan at Pioneer High School. After getting behind 3-1, the Wolverines scored seven of the next eight goals and held on down the stretch for the win. Junior Ashley Steitz paced the squad with four goals, while sophomore Rachel Lary added three of her own while also grabbing five draw controls. Goaltender Liz Mennen finished with six saves in the game, including a few early to keep it close. Michigan will now have three weeks off before departing for Southern California where they'll play three games in three days.

Wolverines Cruise Past Badgers to Close Out Invitational
In the final game of the Michigan Invitational, the University of Michigan women's lacrosse team earned their fifth win of the weekend, defeating the University of Wisconsin by a score of 16-4. The Wolverines built an 11-1 half-time lead and emptied the bench in the second half. Michigan was fueled by 10 different goal-scorers, including four with multi-goal games. Michigan now has two weeks off before taking on intra-state rival Michigan State on March 24 in Ann Arbor, Michigan at Pioneer High School.
Michigan Rolls En-Route to Two Wins
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team earned two more victories on Saturday (March 10) in Ann Arbor, Michigan at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse in the second day of the Michigan Invitational. The Wolverines defeated Rhode Island 14-4 in the first game on the efforts of an 8-0 first half and three goals from sophomore Alexis Pavle. In their second game of the day, U-M dispatched Air Force by a score of 13-8 behind four goals from Amy Johnson. The Wolverines will close out the Invitational on Sunday, when they take on Wisconsin at 11:00am in Ann Arbor, Michigan at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse.
Wolverines Silence Lion's Roar
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team grabbed their second win of the weekend on Friday (March 9), defeating the Lindenwood Lions by a score of 12-5 in Ann Arbor, Michigan at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse. Michigan took a 7-3 lead into the half-time break and built on their lead early in the second half, opening with four unanswered goals to pull away. The Wolverines were paced by Amy Johnson who notched four goals and Micaela Battiste who added three assists. The Maize and Blue will be back in action tomorrow, taking on #23 Rhode Island at 2:30pm in the second game of the day, before battling Air Force at 5:30pm.
Maize and Blue Kick Off Invitational with a Win
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team competed in the first game of the Michigan Invitational on Thursday night (March 8), defeating the #17 Trojans of Southern California by a score of 12-10 in Ann Arbor, Michigan at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse. Led by Alexis Pavle and her three goals and one assist, Michigan led 7-5 at halftime and after scoring three of the first four goals in the second half, it looked as if they would pull away. USC kept fighting however, and with three late goals, made a game of it down the stretch. Michigan will be back in action Friday night (March 9) when they take on Lindenwood at 7:00pm in the second game of the day following USC and Michigan State.
Wolverines Bounce Back, Close out Trip with Two W's
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team earned two victories on Sunday, February 18 in Orlando, Florida, defeating Central Florida 12-6, before holding on against Florida, 9-7. Against the host-school, Michigan rallied with five unanswered goals to open the second half including three from Maggie Preketes (Flint, Mich./Flint Powers) to secure the victory against UCF. In the following game, the Maize and Blue held on down the stretch against the Gators after building a 9-5 lead on the efforts of seven different goal scorers. Freshman goaltender Liz Mennen (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) was the real story however, stopping a career-high 13 shots, including a number of late Florida chances to help secure the victory for U-M. With the two wins, Michigan improved to 6-2 on the young 2007 campaign.
Michigan Opens Orlando Swing 1-2
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team grabbed a win vs. Colorado before dropping back to back to games vs. Georgia and Navy in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, February 17. Michigan opened with an 18-8 win over the Buffalos of Colorado, before falling 15-9 to Georgia and 23-12 to Navy to close out the afternoon. The Wolverines will be back in action tomorrow as they square off against Central Florida and Florida before returning home to Ann Arbor.
Michigan Dominates En-Route to Two More Wins
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team continued their solid early-season play, grabbing two more wins on Sunday, February 11, in Ann Arbor, Michigan at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse, defeating John Carroll by a score of 19-3 to open the night before beating Toledo 20-0. With the wins, the Wolverines bring a 3-0 record with them on their trip to Orlando, Florida next week as they prepare to take on multiple opponents over the course of the trip.
Wolverines Earn Shut Out in Opener
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team opened up their spring season with a win on Sunday night, rolling through Saginaw Valley State by a score of 19-0 at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Freshman Amy Johnson led the way with four goals and two assists, while fellow freshman Jen Sprague and junior Julie Kane each had three goals and an assist. Junior Ashley Steitz had a big game as well, adding two goals and three assists. Michigan used a 14-0 first-half to put away the competition.
Women's Lax Partners with STX
The University of Michigan women�s lacrosse team has reached an agreement with equipment and apparel manufacturer STX to be one of the squad�s major providers of lacrosse-related gear in the coming years. The company works with approximately 16 women�s and 18 men�s varsity-level programs on a sponsorship level. The partnership with the Michigan women�s lacrosse team, a club team, is the first of its kind for the manufacturer.
Laxathon Donations Help Gulf Coast
The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team earmarked a portion of their 2006 Laxathon donations to the Hands on Gulf Coast organization that is helping to rebuild the region devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Former captain, Molly Colgan is a member of the organization and helped set up the connection between the two groups. The squad completed the Laxathon on Nov. 15th and 16th. The two-day event is the team's biggest fundraiser as members of the team keep a ball moving for 24 hours in the Michigan Diag on Central Campus.
'07 Team Announces Captains, Tentative Schedule Set
The Michigan Women's Lacrosse team announced their captains for the 2007 spring campaign. Seniors Noelle Frazier (Richmond Heights, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) and Marie Wolbert (Orchard Park N.Y./Orchard Park High) will guide the squad in the upcoming season. Frazier is coming off an All-American year, notching 75 goals and 22 assists, while Wolbert, a defensive-minded midfielder will be looked upon for her leadership on the other side of the midfield stripe. The Wolverines also released a tentative schedule for the 2007 spring season.
