Maize and Blue Sweeps WCLA Tourney, Earns #4 seed for WDIA Championships
The University of Michigan Women's lacrosse team won three games in Toledo last weekend, defeating Pittsburgh (11-7), Miami (OH) (15-9), and Central Michigan (16-5) to win the WCLA Conference Tournament. With the wins, Michigan was awarded an automatic bid to the USL-WDIA National Championship Tournament in early May in Dallas. The Wolverines (14-3) were awarded a #4 seed.
U-M finishes 2-2 at Lindenwood Tournament
The University of Michigan Women's lacrosse team split their four-game swing this weekend in St. Louis, finishing with two wins and two losses. Michigan got revenge over a Georgia squad that beat them last season, defeating the Bulldogs in a 9-8 OT battle on Friday night (April 11). The following day, the Wolverines dropped their opening game vs. Colorado by a score of 8-7, before coming back to demolish Texas A&M later in the day by a score of 14-2. U-M struggled to score in the weekend's final game vs. Colorado State, dropping a 8-5 decision. U-M will have a week to prepare before heading off to Toledo for the WCLA Conference Tournament.
Wolverines Top Rival Spartans
The University of Michigan Women's lacrosse team defeated in-state rival Michigan State in East Lansing on Saturday, March 29 by a score of 11-10. In a classic nail-biter, the Wolverines were able to outlast their opponent and improve to 9-1, and head to St. Louis, MO in two weeks for the Lindenwood Tournament when Michigan will take on national powers Georgia, Colorado, Texas A&M and Colorado State over the course of three days.
Maize and Blue Prepare for Top-10 Battle
The University of Michigan Women's lacrosse team brings a #4 ranking and an 8-1 record into this weekend's matchup with interstate rival and #6 ranked Michigan State (7-0) in East Lansing on Saturday at 2:00pm EST. Coming off home wins over Lindenwood, a three-game sweep at the Michigan Invitational, and a recent 17-5 win over Central Michigan, the Wolverines will look to avenge last season's loss to MSU in the WCLA post-season tournament. The Wolverines defeated the Spartans a week later in a consolation match at the USL-WDIA National Championship tournament, in a game that featured all the makings of a late-season struggle between two heated rivals. This weekend both teams will look to establish themselves as the cream of the crop in the WCLA as the squads prepare for the post-season.
Wolverines Finish 3-1 at Santa Barbara Tourney

"The Michigan Womens Lacrosse team had a strong showing at the Santa Barbara Shootout this Presidents Day weekend. After a long day of travel on Thursday, the Wolverines played a tough game against Brigham-Young University on Friday afternoon. The leadership of the returning players and the heart of underclassmen proved to be an unbeatable combination, with the Wolverines defeating the Cougars 15-7. On Saturday, Michigan faced their long-time rival and seven-time national championship winning team, Cal-Poly. Aggressive defense and an ability to capitalize on 8-meter shots allowed the Wolverines to defeat the Mustangs 10-8 in a back and forth battle for the win. Michigan lost to the host team, the UCSB Gauchos, in the second game on Saturday but had an impressive comeback in the second half. The Wolverines scored seven goals while holding the Gauchos to one until the final minutes of the game, with a final score of 13-8. Michigan finished strong on Sunday, coming back from a one-goal deficit at halftime to defeat the UCLA Bruins by a final score of 8-5. Overall, it was a very successful and fun-filled tournament for Michigan- a great way to start the season!"
Two Weeks and Two Wins
The University of Michigan Women's Lacrosse team is off to a fast start in '08, having dispatched their first two opponents so far this season in easy fashion en-route to a 2-0 record.
Opening against Oakland following the team's annual Winter Clinic, the Wolverines dominated 18-3, with 12 different players scoring goals including three goals and two assists from freshman Britt Boehm. Sophomore Amy Johnson was strong as well with three goals and an assist.
The following weekend, the Maize and Blue cruised to 2-0 with a 19-1 win over Toledo. Once again Amy Johnson came up big with another three-goal effort, along with another spread offense featuring 11 different goal scorers. Michigan will be back in action when they head west to California for a trio of games between Feb. 14-17.

Wolverines Wrapping Up Fall Practices Under New Coach
The University of Michigan Women's Lacrosse team is headed into the final weeks of fall practice in preparation for the upcoming spring campaign. Things are different this fall however as the team is under new guidance in Head Coach Jen Dunbar. Dunbar comes to Ann Arbor after guiding Birmingham to a State Championship last season but has big shoes to fill after the departure of Mary Ann Meltzer.
