    Happy Birthday!

    Check out On July 31...

    Two odd things here --

  • Dean Cain was born in Mt. Clemens, MI on July 31, 1966. I was born in Mt. Clemens, MI on July 31, 1974. Believe it... or not!
  • Gus Frerotte and Andre Ware share July 31 as a birthday. Both were former Detroit Lions quarterbacks!

I think my best celebrity birthday sharer would have to be Wesley Snipes, though. Always bet on black!

    I am a bad eBay-er

Coke Machine Accidents: I feel for people whose loved ones died, but coke machines just don't tip over through the normal vending process. I bet 99.99999% of these deaths are from people trying to get free pops, or to chake one loose if they got ripped off. Eiher way you're making yourself into a Darwin award winner.

www.salon.com -- Defusing the Explosive Child

I don't currently have any children, but I intend to someday. This article seems to hit most of my observations about children today right on the head -- many parents today seem to have been sold on capitulation and homebrewed psychoanalysis rather than providing rules and punishments for breaking them. I never was really much of a hellion as a kid, but if I or my brothers was pushing it, all it took was a simple "Go get my belt" from my dad to settle us down.

Does this mean you should beat your kids? Of course not. But it also doesn't mean you should bribe them, give in to whining or tantrums or the like. Parents should form the structure for their children's lives -- not vice-versa.

How great is cable? Right now I'm watching live footage of the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain. If I had my druthers, I'd do that once in my life. The ESPN2 guys are finding a *lot* of Americans over there -- wack.

Happy Bastille Day. Happy birthday, Dad.

Salon.com -- The Day the Brands Died

To be completely honest, the world will not come to an end now that grocery and video deliveries via the web is gone. While it may have been helpful for those with disabilities, anyone capable of actually driving or walking to a store who is saddened by the passing of WebVan or the like is whining.

The one thing that struck me in this piece was the question of whether Amazon would survive. This may be the one web e-company for which it would truly be a shame if they were not to survive.

You know those sock monkey dolls? They freak me out -- with those huge red mouths looking like they just tore out someone's carotid artery.

    This is even more disturbing

Last weekend I saw a copy of Transformers: The Movie on the Impulse Buy rack while checking out of Best Buy, and since it was just 15 bucks I fell for it. I used to run home after school or get up at obscene hours of the morning to watch this show, and I remember taking my little brother to go see it at the movies back in 1986...

Anyways, a little searching pulled up the following related links:

  • RoboCar (in espanol)
  • This is a man who dresses up as Transformers
  • Above man as "Optimus Prime"

    Oy vey...
