So I was off all last week save Friday afternoon. What did I (and my lovely wife) do during this time?

  • Slept
  • Layed around
  • Watched TV

There was a lot of the above, but it was not completely sloth-like behavior. I took the barbeque out of storage and got it running for Memorial Day steaks. When I went to have the tank refilled, I found that even though we'd used the gril for 4 solid months, we'd only used 1.5 of 11 gallons of propane -- and there were times at the end of the year prior where I let that thing burn for an hour or so. Crazy. Where are the flying cars? Being outfitted with propane engines.

We have this ugly patch of old white paving rocks and dirt outside our doorwall. I took a step to remedy that by laying down a level of sand with the thought to lay down pea-pebble above it. Julie had an even better idea -- plop a bunch of large square paving stones to have storage area for the barbeque, as well as to actually be able to use the doorwall for entrance or egress.

I was able to find a couple of discount ~5 year old computer games I never played, so Jedi Knight and Might and Magic VI are occupying my time as well. Dann and I were also finally able to defeat Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for the PS2.

There's also copious amounts of playoff basketball and hockey on this time of year.

Overall, I think it was good time off -- both my and Jules' batterys were recharged. We have a week off coming in June as well, but the plans for that are up in the air right now.

This is all over the place, but since Triumph at the Bon Jovi Concert was posted here, I feel I must present you with:

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog in line for Star Wars

I'll write about my lazy vacation and holiday weekend when I get back to work.

Julie's theme of gifts to me was "Traditional First Anniversary Gifts", which included:
  • A Journal with a nice inscription
  • A funny little book about "Wrong Shui"
  • A cool hard/soft cover version of The Hobbit
  • A couple of cool comic books
  • Some Jelly Bellys (not paper flavored)

    Thanks again sweets!

  • Damn, I'm stuffed.

My folks were really kind to Julie and I for our anniversary Monday -- they gave us some dough with the explicit instructions to use it to have a nice dinner, and so we did. We ate at the Chop House and La Dolce Vita, which is actually two different establishments (owned by the same company though) with no real "wall" between them. Jules and I had excellent steaks (mine was seared with a bit too many peppercorns for my taste, but that's OK) and then our waiter led us across the room into the cozy La Dolce Vita, the dessert-and-drinks area. Top notch, but wait until payday. We'll go again, but I don't think they've stolen the mantle of "Our Restaurant" from The Earle.

Speaking of the anniversary, we'd both hit on the idea of using the modern/traditonal gift listings, and I think we each had a lot of fun with that. A good day all-around (especially since I took off work.)

Ugh. Haven't been really in the mood to say much recently, although I'm looking forward to the next week off. Probably should take care of a backlog of movies we need to see. Talk to you next week.

I need more money. I don't need to make it, I just need to have it. I've been doing pretty well in terms of paying of student loans, saving money for a future home purchase, etc., but I'm suddenly in one of those times where I find there are some purchases I'd like to make -- a new television (our current one is on the blitz and likes to give us radio broadcasts or vision-impared movie audio tracks), a new computer (after three years they finally developed a game that my current machine does not meet the requirements to play), shoes, etc. Ah well, I'll figure something out that doesn't require defaulting on any payments.

I got home from watching basketball last night to find that my lovely wife bought a paperback copy of Return of the King for me. Rock on.

Last night Sacramento beat the Mavericks 125-199 -- thus Allen and I had to go get tacos. One more point by the Mavs and we'd have been in the double bonus -- ten tacos at 1 AM. I don't know if I would be writing this right now if that had happened. Thank goodness they didn't go into Chalupa Overtime.

    May's Assclown of the Month!

    Monday, May 06, 2002
I've been reading The Return of the King, and just when I came to the climax of the book -- nay, the series -- there's a conspicuous gap of about 30 missing pages. Bogus.

Welcome back to working on Fridays!

I just now got off the phone with a person who said "I know nothing about computers." Normally, this kind of self-deprecating remark just means that the caller is a novice. Well, for this caller, it was true. Sweet Jesus Boo, I earned my pay today.
