The RC opens its doors. It will be a living-learning community housed in East Quad, with a 2-year live-in requirement. The first director of the RC is Jim Robertson, and he hires Jim Wallace (retired School of Music dean) to teach the first music classes, although an "official" music program has not yet been established. |
1972 |
The official music program starts. It includes Chamber Music and a few other classes. Jane Heirich starts as Program Director. |
1973 |
Creative Musicianship class is added. |
1975 |
Basic Voice Technique class is added. |
1976 |
Classes offered include "Choral-Orchestral Masterworks", "Choral Ensemble", and "Human Voice as Acoustical Instrument." |
1982-87 |
Maria Barna substitutes for Jane Heirich as Program Director, fall term of each year. |
2003 |
Percussion classes (Afro-Cuban Drumming) are added. Jane Heirich retires, and Katri Ervamaa is hired as the new Music Director. |
2004 |
Mark Kirschenmann becomes the professor of the Creative Musicianship class and lab. |
2006 |
Naomi Andre hired as additional RC professor; also teaches Women's Studies courses. |
Summer 2008 |
The East Quad/RC Auditorium will be renovated, due to a $1 million gift from Kenneth Keene, a UM Graduate School (Rackham) alum. |
