"Cultura es Orgullo, Orgullo es Exito" explores the interpretation of women through various types of
Chicano Art. It is the belief of the museum curators that the artistic representation of women, especially in
visual art, can give the best explanation of what the ideal woman and the un-ideal woman is. The visual arts are
able to directly explain the role of women in societies past and present. It is the hope of the curators of this on-
line museum that "Cultura es Orgullo, Orgullo es Exito" will relay the image of a Latina, more specifically,
Chicanas, as viewed through the eyes of other Latinas to the general public.
Latinos today are producing and selling large quantities of art nationwide. Many famous people,
such as Madonna, are buying these pieces. Infact, a large part of Latino artwork is purchased by non-Latinos. It
is because of these facts that "Cultura es Orgullo, Orgullo es Exito" exists today. Many people buy pieces such
as the ones represented in this museums galleries but do not understand what the signifacance depicted in
Chicano art holds to the Chicano culture. 1
