Like all big cities, Detroit is full of cement. Everywhere
you
look there is cement in one form or another and it just seems like you
can't get away from it. Everybody knows that
cement comes in one color, gray, and it definitely isn't pretty to look
at. But with a little imagination cement can
be turned into a painter's canvas, just like the cement barricade in
the picture above. This mural is at the corner
of Vernor Street and Fisher Freeway West just across the street from Garden Park.
It can be seen from all sides of the intersection. The
mural which is painted on a number of cement barricades, depicts
vibrantly colored creatures that seem to travel
along the cement. This mural is just another example of how
Chicano art in Southwest Detroit has helped beautify the community.
These
pictures of the mural were taken
from Vernor Street.
