American Society of Mechanical Engineers
University of Michigan Chapter
Corporate Info Sessions
General Information
ASME company info sessions are held for the benefit of students and industry representatives. Company representatives get a chance to talk to students about what they do and the opportunities available for students (summer/co-op/permanent). Students get a chance to find out in more detail about companies and laboratories that they are interested in working for. These events are usually held between 5-6pm in a lecture hall on our engineering campus. Representatives usually provide general information about their company, industry, and current projects and undertakings. Students then get a chance to ask questions and are encouraged to speak one-on-one with the representatives. Average attendance is 30 students. For further details, please contact us at asme.officers "at" umich.edu.
World Class Engineering College
As you may know, the University of Michigan is one of the top engineering schools in the nation; our mechanical engineering department is ranked #4 in undergraduate and #6 in graduate programs by U.S. News & World Report. Our students are well trained in the practice of engineering and are highly prepared for the work force upon graduation. An ASME company info session gives you a better opportunity to reach these bright students interested in working for you.
Our Society
The ASME chapter at the University of Michigan is one of the most active engineering societies on campus among a total of over 70 engineering societies and groups. We are officially recognized by all governing bodies (student and administration) at the University of Michigan. We hold a 501(c)(3) tax exemption status from the IRS and are a non-profit organization. Our mission is to advance and disseminate the theory and practice of mechanical engineering and related fields; to present a proper perspective of engineering work; and enrich the lives of our members through a variety of activities and social events.
Cost of an ASME Luncheon
Companies hosting an info session with ASME are asked to donate to our society to help us cover the cost of food and other supplies for the event. We ask for a tax deductible donation of $400; this pays for lunch for students and costs associated with setting up the event. You may donate more if you wish; your generosity will be greatly appreciated by ASME. Food arrangements will be handled by the ASME officers; special requests can be handled with adequate notice.
