.: Winter Guard

Winter Guard 1999 This group, which numbers about 15-20, is a competitive performance ensemble that combines dance, flags, sabres and rifles. The 2001 season is Winter Guards fifth, and their third in Winter Guard International Competition. They are members of the Michigan Color Guard Circuit. Practices begin after marching season, in October or November. Performances begin in January and end in April. Winter Guard families fund-raise most of the money needed for this activity, and members and their parents are expected to work concessions at two U-M football games. Families are responsible for purchasing uniforms; also rifles or sabres if the member wishes to keep them. The cost for gloves and uniforms in the last few years has been $50-75. Other costs include meals while on trips and hotel expenses on their regional trips and World Championship trip. Scott Heister directs Winter Guard. Additional information on Michigan Color Guard Circuit, including the schedule of competitions, can be found at www.mcgc.net.
