OUR MISSION

    Provide a collective voice for underrepresented medical students, to our fellow students and administration at the University of Michigan Medical School.

    Foster a sense of community within the medical school among underrepresented students.

    Actively promote minority recruitment, enrolment, and retention at the University of Michigan Medical School.

    Work toward the elimination of health disparities in medically underserved communities through outreach and education programs.

OUR VISION

        The Black Medical Association will operate as an organized and efficiently run organization, working towards the fulfillment of its mission. 

BMA and SNMA

    The Black Medical Association works in conjunction with the Student National Medical Association.  Members of the BMA also pay dues for membership in the SNMA and have the opportunity to attend the SNMA regional and national conferences.

Job description for each officer

President - Oversees the daily operations of the organization, responsible for projects and events that involve the organization, arranges the time and location of meetings, organizes meeting agenda, communicates with university offices, and ensures the organization is functioning efficiently and is fulfilling its mission.

Internal VP - Assists the president in the running of the organization, oversees the community service projects, and oversees the planning of the annual senior banquet.

External VP/SNMA president - Obtains and relays all information concerning the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) from the national office, acts as the coordinator for the SNMA national and regional conferences, and collects SNMA membership dues (one time only).

Treasurer - Responsible for maintaining the financial records for the BMA, and collects annual BMA membership dues.

Secretary - Records the minutes of all meetings and relays the information to all members of the organization.

More Project Coordinator - Works with the Comprehensive Studies Program Office to facilitate interactions between the pre-medical students and current medical students.

Career Seminar Chair - Arranges for minority faculty from the University of Michigan Hospital to speak with BMA members concerning their career choice and experiences.

Community Service Co-chairs - (2 members) Works with community organizations to arrange service opportunities for members.

Fundraising Chair - Arranges and oversees BMA fundraising activities.

Pre-Med Liasion - Plans and coordinates joint activities with pre-medical student organizations.

Student Host Coordinator - Communicates with the admissions office when minority students interview with the medical school, arranges for the interviewers to stay with members of the BMA during the visit.

Social Chair - Organizes BMA parties and mixers with other student organizations, plans group outings for BMA members.

Historian  - Respnsible for photagraph at BMA events and produces a slide show for use at the minority welcome weekend.
