    And another thing!

Flak Magazine outlines all of my problems with Television Without Pity.

    Heh

Jason Gay, in the New York Observer, writes:

"We wish television writers wouldn't confuse verbosity with intelligence. One of the more irritating developments of the past decade in TV is the growth of the 78 R.P.M. drama: shows in which characters speak faster than kindergartners who have to go to the potty, and always do it so grammatically and exquisitely -- Blake references! Teddy Roosevelt quotes! -- and launch smart comebacks every time. We'd really enjoy it if, every once in while, a super-smart character on a super-smart show said, "Huh?""

    Amen brother!

    Back

    I'm back at work.

Here's what I did over vacation, which was less of "we went on vacation" than "we didn't go to work for ten days":

  • Julie and I went to see X2, which was very good (and you can multiply that by mid-week bargain matinee prices).
  • We had a soak at the Oasis Hot Tubs.
  • We ate at the Perrysburg, Ohio Waffle House.
  • I played some poker and lost a hand even though I had a Royal Straight Flush.
  • Allen and I watched copious amounts of NBA Playoff Basketball
  • I stayed up way past my bedtime playing lots of GameBoy Advance games

Today has been two years since our wedding. Julie hasn't killed me, so I must be doing something right.

    Vacation

I'm on vacation, which is good.
I'm not in Las Vegas, which is bad.

Remember the time we drove to Toledo?

This weekend we posse'd (posse-ied?) up for a road trip to Toledo, OH, in celebration of dannimal's 30th birthday. Using crack research technology it was discovered that a Friendly's restaurant existed there; both Dann and I had fond memories of eating Giant Reese's Pieces Sundaes at a local Friendly's as kids, but in the years between, it seems as all of their franchises in Michigan went out of bidness.

All was going well until the very beginning of the trip, when I failed to follow Dann, Barry and Amy onto the expressway. No matter, since we had Mer, who did all the reserach on where this place was, with us. Well, not exactly, as the directions she recalled were somewhat vague. I thought I'd drive fast to try to catch up with them, but construction plotted against me.

Anyways, we get into Ohio, we get off US 23 at Maumee (which borders Toledo) and Viola! There's Friendly's! We did it!

Well, kinda. It was a Friendly's, but not the right one. Mer and Julie went in and got directions to the "real" one while Donald and I plotted ways to call Barry without actually knowing his cell number. We failed, but the ladies did not, so we drove onward. Problem solved!

Well, not exactly. Turns out that the directions on how to get there were like Inverse Directions. When the lady said "turn right", we shoulda turned left. When she said "It's on the right", it was on the left. I'm just glad she never said "Go straight."

Anyways, we got there, there was much mocking, gross amounts of food and ice cream were eaten, and all had fun. Huzzah!

    Celebrate... or Else

I thought today was May Day, but it turns out it's Loyalty Day. I wonder if there's a card?
