    Gordon Jump dead at 71

Whether it's as the boss of WKRP or the creepy bike shop owner that molested Dudley on Diff'rent Strokes, you will not be forgotten.

    Still Kicking

This weekend I was hit by a very sly cold. It made me believe I was fighting it off successfully for a matter of days until it slapped me around Sunday night. I just came back to work today 'cause you ain't of much use on the phone if it hurts to talk and you're coughing all the time.

Over that time I took care of some bidness, doing chores and things around the house that needed doing. I played in a one dollar No-Limit Holdem tourney in one of my more lucid moments. I lasted about a half hour! I could have rebuyed back in for another dollar, but No Limit is a much trickier beast than small-stakes Limit poker. I think I came in 120th out of 139.

Most of my time was spent watching college and pro football. Oh, our fantasy league started up and after two weeks I'm in the cellar. Not so good. I generally have good fantasy football karma, too, having won the league, a second place (but tied with the best record), and never finishing under .500. Got work to do to keep that from happening this year.

My stupid foot ligament is not getting any better, so it's back to the doctor again. I've also got to take my truck in for a recall on the seat, and get the SBC guys out to take a look at this DSL, since it goes down every night anywhere between 8pm and 3am.

    R.I.P.

Was surprised this morning to learn about two deaths.

Johnny Cash dead at 71: Not unexpected, but still sad. Cash was a genius and a rebel, eschewing Nashville's big-belt-buckle and cowboy-hat look to do things his own way. He was singing about prison and shooting his woman long before Eminem was even born -- not that he couldn't bring you to tears with a hymnal or touch you with a sincere and earnest love song, though.

John Ritter dead at 54: Totally unexpected, and sad, since he was enjoying another chance at stardom because of his new show. People my age seem to think that Three's Company was a ridiculous farce of a show, something of no importance, but Ritter actually won an Emmy for playing Jack Tripper. He wasn't that old either.

    Weekend Wrap

Friday we went to Mr. Allen's bidet and I caught up with a few people I hadn't seen in a while, as well as played some cards. Broke even and had fun, which is the point.

Saturday was spent recovering from the crazy workweek, chilling out and watching copius amounts of college football, including a beatdown of Houston (just like the game I saw back in the early nineties in the Big House).

Sunday was spent watching a Lions victory, watching more football, going to a birthday dinner for Jill, and then playing cards (not so lucky this time) and watching the Sunday night game.

    Now, back to work.
