    Real Quick-Like

Olympics are over, which is sad, yet good, as I was getting a little burned out at the end. I did see some of all the sports I wanted to see, even handball and field hockey, and I only got blipverts of stuff I wasn't interested in -- stuff beginning with "Synchro" or "Rhythmic".

Another busy week of work looms.

    Need new washer hoses.

No real time to investigate my FF pre-draft ranks, so I'll just jope for the best.

Mildly annoyed with Zelda: Wind Waker, but that needs another post to flesh out my annoyances.

I get paid tomorrow. Most of my money will be gone the day after that.

    Now I'm finally going home.

    Random!

Couldn't post at work today 'cause we were in Full Apology mode; an email upgrade came and went without some casualties. We took about 550 calls. It was cool to have the head of my department in our office taking calls tho.

The other night Dann was going on about how he didn't get the Hammerthrow as an Olympic sport. So I get home and what's on? Gold-Medal Hammerthrow finals.

Tried to call DirecTV to update my phone number and the 800 number was busy. Got through around 9; the rep I talked to said they're the busiest they've ever been, which fills me with glee since that probably means people are leaving Comcast in droves.

You know what blows? Running out of gas/juice in the mower after mowing 7/8 of your property.

DirecTV gave me a free coupon for a PPV movie. Now maybe I'll be able to find out what happened at the end of Passion Cove 9.

Everyone knows that Rocky 5 never really happened. But I think you can make a convincing argument that Rocky *2* never happened.

Home Ownership, Days 1 and 2

  • It's dark -- the neighborhood is DARK, man. I turn out all the lights and make my way up to the bedroom at a snail's pace, feeling the walls, stubbing toes, etc.
  • All of the electrical outlets are strategically positioned to be right in the middle of any good place to put furniture.
  • The direcTV is awesome, but I'm not sure I'll be able to program the VCR to tape shows effectively.
  • I'm not sure the delivery guy hooked the water line up to the fridge correctly, but I have to wait on investigating that.
  • The Dryer Snafu hopefully will be resolved with a minimum of pain, altho we still gots to get it from one place to the other still.
  • The smoke alarm goes off when people take showers.
  • The furniture is nice, but we need to figure out an Optimal Configuration.
  • Everything is dependent on something else. To get DSL we need to wait for basic phone service which needs to be in place to test the new jacks which should be done before finishing the entertainment center setup which should be done before setting up the family room and office...

More to come as events develop.

    dwinn vs local utilities

So yeah, I'm old now and it's all good, but the Impending Move has thrown a few wrinkles into my life.

Wrinkle #1 was the fact that mail stopped showing up at the house, which was fine for a while, until we realized that nothing sent to us was showing up there at all. Since there are about four post offices in a four mile radius from the house, I went to the one closest to my work, waited in line and told the postal worker what was up. Turns out the post office assumes that when someone moves out of a house that the house is VACANT! So I have to go to the post office that services our neighborhood to find out if that A) have our mail and B)tell them the house is not VACANT. The person I talk to thinks ours is the Whitaker Road office.

So I drive out there, and they're like "No way, we're Ypsi, you should go to the Stadium office, they're Huge over there."

So I drive over there, and they're like "Well, you're actually served by the Liberty Office."

So I give up and go to work, but Julie was going that way anyways and now all is well.

Which leads to Wrinkle #2 -- we didn't get a DTE utilities bill. I call them up to see what they have to say and the rep says they mailed one on July 20, which would have been the no-mail time and also old enough for the post office to send it back. The rep says if I just take a billing statement to the office across the street from the house, I can pay there, which sounds like a great solution, except that when I go to this office there's 40 angry people in line who can't understand what air conditioning has to do with a high energy bill, so I leave and call in the payment over the phone, and I eat a hefty surcharge in the process.

Well, the energy bill showed up in the mail today, postmarked August 4. Curious...
