Time for vacation -- not going anywhere, but not going to work either. I'll be around now and then. Peace out.

I wonder if Mordor is a giant microwave...

My granddad, Clarence Winningham, died this morning. He was 76.

He was the only grandfather I ever knew; my mom's dad died when she was a little girl. He was a Southern Gentleman, a hillbilly, a genius mechanic, a shrewd businessman, a prepetual teaser, yet always kind to his family.

    I will miss him.

The Julie was out of town this weekend. The stage was set for hijinx.

I am too old for hijinx.

Friday I went to a delayed Halloween Party with my costume being that of the Superfans, which garnered a very positive reaction, even if the adhesive on the fake moustache was defective.

Over the weekend proper I took care of chores, laundry, shopping, and watched some football of both the collegiate and professional varieties. I picked up some comics I'd missed last month as well as some HeroClix and the Settlers of Catan 2-player Card Game (NOT a "collectable card game").

Julie finally came back and we went to the Outback, which apparently pipes in audo advertisements even when you're eating at your table. *This* was an idea that didn't need to happen, especially since I can see it happening at every restaurant in the future. Oy.

Yesterday I had the fun of going to an all-day seminar on the re-organization of my work group (that's "not really a re-org", even tho the same thing will probably happen.)

Actually, beyond the same old shit that gets talked about at these things, it wasn't horrible. I was at a table full of cool people, the eats were good, I got to watch some grizzled old veterans of ITD yell at the consultants about how this was the *sixth* re-org they'd been through with no appreciable changes... The end, tho, was the icing on the cake. A guy in the division that I don't work with stood up and began a fifteen minute long diatribe, during which he claimed that this re-org "wasn't a dream" and that "this is happening" and if you were not a part of it, you were "Stoopid!" High marks on the Unintentional Comedy Meter, folks.

But then came this pearl of wisdom: "James (head of dept) made all the Alligators (the people who wouldn't play along with this new vision) Stewards (people who headed the "communities"). And when all of the alligators are stewards, the alligators can't stab themselves in the back."

I'm thinking of making t-shirts with that on it. They'd sell well.
