Chapter 1: Mole Balances

Batch System Mole Balance Derivation

General Mole Balance on System with Volume, V:

No inflow or outflow-FA0=FA=0

Assumption: Well mixed

Rearranging and integrating with limits
   t = 0       NA = NA0
   t = t1      NA = NA1

Multiplying by -1 and changing the limits of integration

This equation gives the time t1 necessary to reduce the number of moles in a batch reactor from NA0 initially to NA1.
