Another aspect unique to this instrument (and to VR space in general), is that the interaction with the user can also cause various visual elements of the world be affected. These elements are controlled in the same way the player creates sound, by manipulating the control surface.

Projection screens

There are six projection screens located in the performance area of the instrument. Two of these screens (one on either side of the room) are mapped to each voice. The picture displayed is chosen from two stored in memory and it is selected by the sound selection buttons for that voice. The texture scaling and rotation are changed by the user's manipulation of the pitch and volume faders for that voice. The pitch/speed faders control the rotation of the textures, and the intensity fader affects the scaling.

Moving geometry

At the moment, the red sphere seen in the picture below orbits the player's head. Depending on the user's feedback, the sphere alters its rotation and color to reflect changes in the music. Changing the pitch fader of the melody voice alters the rotaional radius of the sphere as a visual guide to the pitch of the melody. The three volume faders are used to control the red, green and blue components of the ball's color. If the instrument were playing at it's loudest possible level the ball would be all white. If the instrument were playing with all volumes at zero, the ball would be black.
