One of our original design goals was to make good use of the capablilites of VR space when implementing our instrument. We did that in the following manner:
Integrated environment/instrument
In the real world, the physical environment cannot change based directly on the player's actions. We incorporated visual elements whose appearance and motion change as the player progresses through the piece.
Location specific
This instrument is unique in that, by introducing a viewing area for the audience, it provides its own venue. The artistic expression of the instrument depends on the space it is located in and how the audience is positioned.
Ideally includes acoustic models
At some point, an accurate acoustic model for the space should be created. This will help give the impression that the space really does exist by altering the sounds based on the acoustic characteristics of the VRML model.
