If you are familiar with how to find bill indexes, texts and status, you can skip this section.
THOMAS indexes
bills by subject, sponsor, committee, popular title, and stage reached
in the legislative process since 1973.
It provides a digest or summary, the full text of the bill, and complete legislative status: that is, whether the bill is in committee, being debated, in conference, etc. It can be useful for chosing a topic too, if the topic you want is not covered by Congressional Quarterly. It is a good idea to print this information off. It will give you clues for further research. |
Congressional
Universe indexes bills since 1989 by keyword, sponsor, and
bill number. It provides the full text and a complete
legislative history.
It is only available to University of Michigan students, faculty, and staff from campus workstations, from home using the University's private Ann Arbor phone number, or through the remote server. |
You can also use Congressional Quarterly to find bill numbers for major legislation. Its call number is: JK1.C12, and it is located in the Documents Center. | |
The full text of Congressional
