Welcome to the Cosmology Group!
Cosmologists at the University of Michigan are studying the universe
from fractions of a second after the Big Bang to the present day. We
include both experimentalists and theorists, and measure, understand
and explain length scales ranging from 10^(-33) to 10^(28) centimeters.
The main questions we are working on are:
- What is the nature of dark energy that causes the apparent acceleration of the universe?
- What is the nature of dark matter in the Universe? Is supersymmetry related to the existence of dark matter?
- How can we make use of clusters of galaxies to understand the evolution of structure in the Universe?
- Does the Universe, on average, look the same in every direction?
- Are there additional spacetime dimensions beyond the four that we know about?
