54 miles. St. Francisville, LA to Hyde Park Campground, Easleyville, LA
We woke up to another very cold morning, the temp
was in the low 30s again. This morning we were lucky because we were able to
cook our breakfast indoors at the camp pavilion.
We hit the road early and within a few miles we were at
a Nature Preserve when a father and daughter drove up. We went on a short hike
with them and they invited us for TG dinner. Unfortunately it didn't work out,
but in the mean time we had headed back to the campground and at 11:00 we hit
the road again for Easleyville.
There was an advantage to our late start since we rode
through areas that had received rain that might have affected us had we
continued on as planned. We were able to get in before dark and had time to cook
our TG dinner of beef and gravy, with mushrooms over egg noodles, with frenched
green beans, and a southern praline for desert. We then went right to bed at
6:00.
It was overcast and cold all day as rode onto
Easleyville. The terrain was gently rolling with many small hills but traffic
was low with the holiday and we were able to make good time. This is a very
scenic area with extensive forest and more Autumn color than we have seen so
far.
Little to report otherwise, except for one small but
excellent stampede. We passed by Jackson (pop. 3819), Norwood (pop.421),
Woodland, Felixville, Chipola and Easleyille (all very small). Easleyville is
just a store, carwash and washeteria. The Easleys apparently own them all and
have turned their fiefdom into a "ville." Hmmm. Mastersville. It does
have a nice ring to it.
