Friday, November 23, 2001 - Oh Oh

68 miles. Easleyville, LA to Choctaw Motel, Bogalusa, LA

We continued our scenic rode thru EastLa. It was warmer over night and at dawn it was quite foggy. We got one of our earlier starts and rode in fog until 10 a.m. until the sun was high enough to dissipate the fog.
We passed thru Tangipahoa (pop. 569), an other side of the tracks kind of village, Bolivar, Richardson (both tiny) and Franklinton (pop. 4007) where we made a wrong turn that cost us several miles. The final 25 miles to Bogalusa went past Springhill and then past an unbroken pine plantation forest stretching to Plainview. Terrain all day was easy rolling hills with partly sunny, skies.
We entered Bogalusa by the back door, passing a very large paper plant that is a major employer in the area. You would not want to be down wind of this baby. There was a glitch with the ride. I broke a spoke on the freewheel side about half way thru and we will have to go off route to have it repaired in Slidell LA, just across Lake Pontchatrain from The Big Easy. About 45 miles south of Bogalusa.
