Project IntroductionWe have initiated a Mongolian-American international partnership to survey the diatom flora of Hovsgol National Park in north-central Mongolia. Lake Hovsgol is one of Mongolia's national treasures as evidenced by the creation of the National Park in 1992 and its approval as an International Long Term Ecological Research site (ILTER) in 1998. We have begun a 3-year cooperative program to survey the diatom flora of the Lake Hovsgol basin and the Darhad basin. Results will be presented on this website and in a conventional "flora."This project is funded by the National Science Foundation Biotic Surveys and Inventories, the NSF International Fellows Program and the University of Michigan's International Partnerships Program. |
