Why Impact?

A new group of leaders are emerging in America.A new group of leaders are emerging in America.  This is a group of college educated African American born after the era of civil rights, the grandchildren of integration.  It is a group of leaders faced with a growing dilemma.  The black middle class is growing in number and fortune; the black masses are growing in number and in its marginalization in society.

Historically, the African American church has provided a cementing, spiritually transforming influence.  Yet, many bemoan the church's current struggle to effectively engage the younger generation.  Young leadership is being pulled out of the African American community and is struggling for ways to reach into the community and give something back.

These emerging leaders are found on campuses across the United States.

They are asking key questions. What does the future hold for African America?

  • What defines my leadership?

  • Is it the standards of the white society, or influence with the African American community?

  • Who will lead the African American community out of this predicament?

  • Will it be Louis Farrakhan?

  • Or should we look elsewhere?

  • What does it mean to be an African American Christian?

  • Is it an anachronistic and destructive formulation, or a definition with empowering potential?

  • What does the future hold for African America?

The emerging generation of African American leadership is looking for answers.  Yet, the voices that are dominant in our community are sending mixed messages.  How will the nihilistic influences in popular African American culture be held in check?  From where will a clear sense of direction, both healthy and hearty, come in to focus?

The Impact Movement is clearing away the fog that clouds the perspective of future leaders of Africa America.  Impact is a movement of transformed and mobilized emerging leaders seeking to be agents of change on their campuses, in their communities, and around the world.  At its heart, Impact is about giving these emerging leaders the hope they need to define themselves as children of God, made and created with a rich heritage, unlimited opportunity, and divine destiny.  A destiny that is not limited to earthly prosperity, nor confined to community redemption, but a destiny that builds God's eternal kingdom.

Impact is committed to returning emerging African American leadership to its roots - the communities that gave them (or their parents) birth, and the continent from which their lineage was diverted. In so doing, students experience strength and value that they have seldom known as African Americans. They will no longer see their skin as a liability, but will recognize themselves as having been created for a divine purpose. We believe this transformation will take place person by person, establishing a new sense of community, penetrating our families with hope and ultimately impacting the world. We are answering the key questions.
