As you are well aware, carbohydrates are ones of the most important biomolecules found in nature. They are present in our food, nucleic acids, various biomaterials, cell walls of bacteria and plants and on the surface of mammalian cell surface as glycolipids and glycoproteins. In addition, they are often found as glycoconjuates in to form of medinially important natural products. Given their ubiquitous presence, it is not surprising that they play a important role in modulating several critical biological processes. The fundamental understanding of carbohydrates and their function is essential to several fields that include basic research, bio/nanotechnology, human health and disease processes and renewable resources.
Having a mission of bringing together and providing a qorum for the local students, faculty and principal investigators working towards the understanding of carbohydrate chemistry, biology and function, the Midwest Carbohydrate and Glycobiology Symposia have been hold annually since 2005. The list of past hosts and organizers of MCGS symposia is provided below:

It is our intention to continue this tradition of excellence and make every effort to make this symposium a success, where students and faculty can present their research findings in an engaging environment. The symposium will include topics such as Carbohydrate Synthesis, Glycobiology, Glycotherapeutics, Glycomics, Carbohydrate Engineering, Glycomaterials and Carbohydrates as renewable resources.
We look forward to hosting this virtual symposium.
Sincerely,
Profs. Pavel Nagorny and John Montgomery
