March 26th, 1988 - July 24th, 2013
Paul was raised in Schoolcraft, Michigan where he graduated from Schoolcraft High School as valedictorian. He was captain of the track and field and cross country teams. He continued in academic and athletic excellence graduating from Grand Valley State University and matriculating at the University of Michigan Medical School. He rose to the rank of second lieutenant in the United States Air Force where he was in the upper ten percent in Commissioned Officer Training and was ranked as top in physical fitness among his cohort.
He lived in the Phi Rho Sigma house for three and a half years serving as house manager in his second year. Paul was a victim of a homicide that occurred in the third month of his fourth year. This senseless loss of a friend and colleague devastated all in Zeta of Phi Rho Sigma and the medical school community. For his thorough and impressive academic achievement he was conferred the doctorate of medicine as a member of the graduating class of 2014. A blossoming pear tree was planted in front of the house in his memory. The Paul D. DeWolf Scholarship was endowed by his family, friends, and the Phi Rho Sigma Foundation to be awarded to a medical student who best exemplifies Paul’s drive for academics, leadership, and athleticism.
In addition to being a beloved friend and brother to all in Zeta of Phi Rho Sigma, Paul was a dedicated son and brother. He had the unique ability and desire to include everyone into his everyday zest for life. He will be remembered by all those who knew him best as an inspiration for his passion for life, discipline, and leadership. May future generations of house members reflect on the outstanding legacy of service and friendship manifested in Paul DeWolf’s life.
