Lorna Miller grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. As a young child, Miller possessed a talent for drawing, as well as an interest for funny cartoons. When she was around eight years old, she completed her first comic book, The Funny Book. Miller often dreamt of living in isolation when she was a teenager, much like her favorite painter Joan Eardley. Miller had relatives in Lithuania who were artists that focused mainly on religious paintings. Contrary to her career advisor's advice to go to a University and study English, Miller attended Glasgow School of Art for four years. After graduating in 1994, she returned to drawing comics, which eventually led to requests for illustration work. Miller has exhibited her work in the UK, France, The Netherlands and Croatia. She has also appeared at many comics events, had interviews on both television and radio, hosted comics workshops, and spoken to students at the Kent Institute of Art. Today Miller resides in Hastings, East Sussex with her husband, designer and illustrator, Chris Watson.
Perhaps Miller's most well-known work worldwide, Witch is an eighty-page comic published by Slave Labor. To date, there are four published comics in the Witch series. The comics cover a range of subjects. Initially drawn from mini strips, Witch is about Angela Sales Assistant and working-class life in Glasgow, a family of cows that live off government welfare, and a modern woman's take on Mary Magdalen and the Virgin Mary. Miller examines sexual politics and social satire from a woman's perspective. She has been published in a number of magazines, including Cheap Date, Girlfrenzy, Super State Funnies, Crisp and Variant. She is also a freelance hand and digital colorist for the popular children's comic 'Thomas the Tank Engine'.
