Your Professor is back today from her trip to La Festival de la Bande Dessinée in Angouleme, France. Expect a full report next week.

Cartoonists Bill Griffith and Diane Noomin are coming to speak to the class today! They are both important and influential artists and it's our great privilege that they have agreed to visit us.
In preparation for their visit, please read TRUE GLITZ (by Diane Noomin) and ZIPPY: FROM HERE TO ABSURDITY.
ALSO, remember to think of THREE QUESTIONS you'd like to ask our speakers. PLEASE E-MAIL ME your questions by MONDAY NIGHT (hey, I know that's not much notice, but I've had essentially no opportunity to connect to the internet since leaving home). I will accept your questions later if I must but certainly no later than Tuesday evening.

Bring your stories-in-progress as well as your drawing supplies, inking ink, pens, brushes, etc.

due Wednesday, January 19 (Janis Joplin's birthday):
• you should have purchased all of your books and supplies. Remember to buy a binder to keep your hand-outs organized. You'll be getting many more.
• rough sketches for project 1. Sketches may be quite rough, yet must represent the entire narrative and be broken down by page. I recommend sketching directly on the paper you will use for final art.
• bring your finished ink drawing exercises.
• read the book you were given and return it to me.

I will be handing out copies of True Glitz by Diane Noomin and passing around the research choice lists. You will work on your stories in class, so please bring supplies.

NOTE: attendance is REQUIRED today. If you're not in class, you'd better prepare an air-tight excuse.

Mini-comic
due Monday, January 10, 2005:

Finish up the story you began on the first day of class, darkening lines with pencil or pen so that they will copy well.
You should have laid out the pages of your mini-comic according to this scheme:

Make a test copy of your story (double-sided), and, following the directions, fold, trim, and staple it. When you're sure your book is put together correctly and reads properly, make 27 more copies, assembling each one.

On Monday, we will distribute all the mini books. We'll take some time to read them all, then have an informal discussion/critique of the work.

All students should participate in this project, even those on the waiting list.
