Peter Bagge was born in Peekskill, New York, where he grew up reading and watching MAD magazine, Warner Brothers cartoons, hot rod comics, Peanuts, and plenty of TV like most kids of the 1960’s. Although not encouraged to pursue his cartooning ambition at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, he was inspired by the exposure of such underground artists as R. Crumb and Bill Griffith of his time. His early years began doing comics with friends, but later got his first real opportunity working on editions of R. Crumb’s legendary magazine, Weirdo.

During his time with Weirdo, he pursued comics as his own, such as Neat Stuff where he introduced his later famous Buddy Bradley and the Bradley’s. Here Peter developed his gang of loser misfit characters, which attracted both humor and a strong following fan base. He may be most known for his ultra-successful Hate publication, which became the voice of the “twenty-nothing slackers”. It was hailed by critics for its brilliant characterization in its complete dramatization of the 1990’s. Peter has been recognized as “the funniest cartoonist in existence” by the creator of Ren & Stimpy, John Kricfalusi.
