Correlates of War (COW)

The Correlates of War (COW) Project is an ongoing effort to study and explore the conditions associated with the outbreak of war, as well as with the conditions surrounding militarized disputes. Begun in 1963 at the University of Michigan, the COW Project has produced over one hundred and fifty journal articles and book chapters as well as more than a dozen books. The COW Project is widely considered to have one of the top data collection programs in the field of political science, and a substantial period of time the Project has been one of the most frequently cited among individuals conducting quantitative reseach in comparative and international politics. For additional information on the origins and development of the Correlates of War Project, please refer to the Bibliographic Essay.
