Description: Relevance and popularity of research on color and appearance in dentistry increased with the advancement of esthetic restorative materials and corresponding tools, instruments and technologies. Specifically, minimally invasive materials and techniques highlight the importance of the analysis of the optical properties of hard and soft oral tissues, and corresponding restorative materials. However, controversies exist in substituting the traditional “dental color science” with sound color science, and in bringing additional relevance to in-vitro and clinical research, as well as in dental education and practice.
The objective of this symposium is to address (1) methods of implementing advances in color and appearance in dental education, research and practice; (2) research on minimally invasive restorative approaches, including tooth whitening, and quantification of their effectiveness, (3) new technologies to facilitate research on optical properties, and (4) research on predictable esthetics of dental restorations using digital color formulation and digital color searching.
