FALL WORKSHOPS FOR THE INTEGRATED POLICY EXERCISE (IPE)
The Ford School of Public Policy is sponsoring a series of workshops to teach students negotiation skills and small group dynamics. Although the primary purpose of these workshops is to prepare students for the Integrated Policy Exercise (IPE) this winter, the skills addressed will also be applicable to students’ future professional endeavors.
SKILLS FOR WORKING IN SMALL GROUPS

Wednesday, Nov. 6, 6:30-9:30 p.m. or Friday, November 8, 3-6 p.m. Foster Library, Lorch Hall
Description: This workshop will integrate theory, research, and experiential learning strategies in understanding the formation, development and successful functioning of small groups and teams. The role that one’s values, world-views and basic cultural assumptions play in various small group processes will be explored through group exercises, reflection, and feedback. The workshop will explore how small groups are affected by various policy-making contexts, and will conclude with participants developing shared expectations for working together in small groups.
NEGOTIATION WORKSHOP

Description: This negotiation workshop will expose students to fundamental strategies to achieve successful negotiations. Although there are many frameworks to explain the negotiation process, this workshop will focus on a mutual-gains model, a win-win approach to negotiation. Students will participate in negotiation role simulations as a way to practice skills in two-party and multi-party negotiations.
