April 28, 2006

Laura from Ann Arbor, MI asks:
"I was so surprised to see Calli Ryals in Stick It! Has she been doing any other acting lately?"

Webmistress Anjel says:
"Prior to her appearance in Stick It, Calli was a stunt double for Kristin Bell, the lead on the television show Veronica Mars. To learn more, read the recent Michigan Daily article on Calli."

February 6, 2006

Jennifer from Grand Blanc, MI asks:
"Why isn't Sarrie Rubin on the team anymore?"

Webmistress Anjel says:
"Sarrie transferred to the University of North Carolina and is on the Tar Heels' team this season."

February 1, 2006 (for Coach Bev)

Kathleen from Athens, GA asks:
"Can we expect Becky Bernard back in the bars lineup any time soon? Has she been out of the lineup because of her strained achilles?"

Webmistress Anjel says:
"Prior to the Penn State meet, Becky's achilles began to bother her. More recently, she has been out of the lineup due to a broken bone in her foot, sustained in practice. For more information on Becky's progress, check out Coach Bev's Briefing from February 1st."

December 28, 2005 (for Coach Bev)

Veronica from Ann Arbor, MI asks:
"How can clubs apply to be the entertainment for a local competition?"

Coach Bev says:
"Thanks for asking. Teams can sign up to exhibition at our home meets through our sports marketing office. Our contact this year is Bill Johnston. I believe that they send out a letter to all of the local clubs each year, asking if they would like to participate and if so, for which meet or meets they could do it. The sports marketing team will do the best they can
to match up clubs to dates and accomodate as many as they can. They usually have the same club provide the runners and flashers for that same meet. Further questions can be directed to the University of Michigan Athletic Department at (734) 647-2583. Thanks! Go Blue!"

November 19, 2005

Ben from Canton, MI asks:
"What is your favorite move on floor and beam?"

Lindsey says:
"My favorite move on floor would have to be my popanova. It is a full twisting straddle jump to my stomach. My favorite move on beam is my miller. I have done it for so long, and it is
always fun everytime."

October 27, 2005

Jennifer from Grand Blanc, MI asks:
"I was wondering what Code of Points the NCAA would be using. I heard that Men's Gymnastics would be using a code similar to the new one and I was wondering if women's gymnastics was going to do that."

Coach Bev says:
"The NCAA uses a modified version of the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympics rules for Level 10." Additional information can be found at the National Association of Women's Gymnastics Judges website .(www.nawgj.org/ncaa_gymnastics_rules.htm)

October 24, 2005 (for Lauren)

Jeffrey from Sterling Heights, MI asks:
"Lauren - a comment and a question. I am glad to have you back for one more year - I hope you enjoy lots of success this season. My question - because you are returning for a fifth year, do you believe you need to take on additional leadership responsibilities due to your greater experience?"

Lauren says:
"At times, yes I do feel that, being a fifth year, I have a greater leadership responsibility. But the two other seniors, Jenny and Becca, also have great leadership qualities, therefore I don't feel that all the responsibilty is on myself! Thanks for the question, and I am glad to be back!"

October 24, 2005

Jennie from Watervliet, MI asks:
"I went to U-M gymnastics camp this summer (what a great camp!), and I was wondering if there was a way I could get back in touch with the gymnasts that coached us."

Coach Bev says:
"You can email me at bev@umgym.com, and I will forward your message to the appropriate gymnast."

October 20, 2005

Stefanie from Ann Arbor, MI asks:
"How do you decide what pictures to use in your media guides? Do the girls design their own pages?"

U-M Media Relations Guru Rich says:
"The Michigan gymnastics media guides are designed by the U-M athletic media relations office with some help from the coaches and athletes. The media relations director for gymnastics edits the pages and, with input from the coaches, chooses the best pictures for the guide."

October 14, 2005 (for Megan)

Michelle from Philadelphia, PA asks:
"What is your favorite thing about being a Michigan student-athlete?"

Megan says:
"My favorite thing would have to be that I get to be part of the amazing tradition of excellence and pride associated with Michigan athletics. It’s humbling to be involved in something so much bigger than myself and full of such a powerful, rich history. And of course, I love just being on the gymnastics team and getting to hang out with my incredible teammates all the time!"

October 1, 2005

Kelly from Grand Rapids, MI asks:
" I was at camp, and I was wondering who the people were on the blue posters hanging up around the gym?"

Head Coach Bev says:
"The blue banners that hang in our gym are not really suppose to be recognized in terms of who they are, but rather the artistry of gymnastics. We faded out the faces on purpose and added the words like 'Strength' and 'Grace' to represent what gymnastics is. We did, however, use our own alumni for the banners. Some of the gymnasts featured include: Nikki Peters, Sarah Cain, Elise Ray, Calli Ryals, Janessa Grieco, Chris Mantilia, Bridget Knaeble, and Beth Wymer. I hope you liked them."

August 9, 2005

Helen Yi from Atlanta, GA asks:
" What is Elise up to now that she's graduated? Is she going to visit UM often?"

Assistant Coach Joanne says:
"Elise was hired by Cirque du Soleil and has been training in Montreal all summer as a flyer. She thought she had a good chance to go to Las Vegas and be a performer in the O show, but now they have put that on hold and she is waiting to see where she will be needed. I heard she will be back in Ann Arbor shortly and be staying for awhile!"

August 1, 2005 (for the departing duo)

A few folks have been wondering:
"Just wondering how Elise and Chelesa "got" the freshies back for all their pranks. Elise and Chelesa kept saying big things were planned, but they never posted what they did."

Recently graduated Chels says:
"HaHa... Oh man. Sadly enough, Elise and I were all talk and no walk this year with those freshies. We have great plans; that is no lie... and hopefully, once Elise returns at the end of August, we can actually carry something through. I guess unlike those freshies, we were a little more concentrated on our school work...the brilliant seniors that we are...er, were! It just seemed as though we ran out of time too quickly, with nationals and graduation and our road trip to Arkansas/Kansas. Not to mention Elise heading off to Montreal at the beginning of June for Cirque du Soleil training. But someday....someday."
