HOW DO YOU CHOOSE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER?An interior designer can develop and arrange living and working spaces for enjoyment and efficiency. An interior designer's general responsibilities include the design of spaces, selection and specification of materials and furnishings and may also include contracting of construction and installation services. The types of spaces wit h which interior designers work include institutional, office, retail, residential and public spaces.
There are several types of organizations that offer interior design services: Large and small interior design offices, interior design departments within industrial design and architectural offices, individual freelancers, and interior design departments of retail organizations. Some firms or individuals specialize in certain areas of interior design, such as hospital or school design.
Develop a list of several designers or organizations that you think will fulfill your needs. Look at the work of designers reviewed in the periodicals and books listed below. Check the membership lists of the design profession organizations listed below. Talk to others, who have successfully used designers, for the names of offices for the names of offices or individuals in your area.In interviewing designers, ask to see samples of past work. Ask questions about what the specific goals and problems were and how the designer solved them. Ask how the designer might approach your problem.
