About us
--who we are and what we do

Our Mission
WSSA is a student group that was formed to serve the students in the Womens Studies Program at U of M. Our hope is to foster a closer community within the Program and to bring students together with each other and with the faculty and staff of the Program. WSSA is here to provide Womens Studies students with valuable academic resources that cannot be found in the classroom. We are also here to act as a liaison between students and the administration (and vice versa). Through our events and programming, we hope to help enrich the experiences of the Womens Studies students at Michigan.

Our History
The first Womens Studies student group, the Undergraduate Women's Studies Association, was formed in 1997. It grew out of the desire to develop a more unified feminist/Women's Studies community on campus. The UWSA was created under the premise that it is possible to improve women's lives through education and feminist activism. Reactivated in the winter of 2002, WSSA is hoping to rebuild the community within the Womens Studies Program and continue to enrich the lives of women through education and activism.
