Rudy Cuellar, Che, 1973
This image is of Ernesto "Che" Guevera, the young revolutionary who together with Fidel Castro, traveled to Cuba to overthrow dictator Fulgencio Batista. Che exalted such virtues as having no ego, but having love for fellow men. In 1967, he was executed at the age of 39, which only enhanced his status as a martyr. Upon his death, he was immediately transformed into an important Chicano icon, demonstrating the radicalization of a section of the Chicano civil rights movement. 33
