David Avalos, Untitled, No Date

This poster is a close-up of Pancho Villa, the famous general in the Mexican War. In Villa's youth, he was a rebel with a fiery spirit and an outlaw for killing the son of his master, who raped his sister. During the war, which was fought to rid dictator Porfirio Diaz of power, he was the leader of the war in Northern Mexico and the hero of the battle of Ojinaga. 32 He was uncapturable during the war. The use of this poster in the Chicano movement embodied the spirit of revolution and resistance of Pancho Villa.
