Judith Baca
Judith Baca was born in 1946 and was reared in a matriarchal family. She received a bachelors degree from California
State Northbridge in 1969 and her masters in 1979. Judith Baca studied mural painting techniques in Mexico and had used her art as an
expression of her Chicana identity and as a way for serving her community. She was influenced greatly by her indigenous
grandmothers and her mothers hard work to pull the family ahead. She was involved with young gangs in the barrio that inspired her
tremendously. 4
