A Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) is set up to develop high fidelity engine models. The HIL comprises:
- A vehicle model used to determine desired engine torque and speed for a specific drive cycle
- A heavy duty diesel engine (DD13) coupled to a Dyno. The engine control unite creates inputs such that DD13 follows the desired torque and speed trajectory.
- Engine model: obtaining the inputs from the DD13 engine control unit, outputs are generated using a 6-states engine model
