Mentoring
ASMu is starting a mentoring program for students within the MSE
department. For this program, prospective MSE students and/or declared MSE underclassmen will be paired
with an
upperclassmen MSE student to develop inter-cohort boding and for underclassmen to learn more about the
department and
the opportunities available to them from their more experienced peers. The program features our own
juniors and seniors
in MSE who have experience and insight on various research topics and varying post-graduation plans.
Current underclassmen are encouraged to sign up as mentees to be paired up with a mentor in the
department. This
mentoring program has flexible expectations to allow for personalized 1-on-1 communication and mentoring
styles that are
suited for the mentor/mentee pair. At a minimum, mentors and mentees are expected to be in
weekly-biweekly contact and
discuss prompts shared by the program coordinators.
If you are interested in signing up as a mentee, please sign up using this link by Friday, March 17 so
the mentor/mentee
pairings can be communicated and get the program started. The sign-up also includes a link to slides
created by the
mentors for mentees to select their preference for a mentor based on common interests/future
plans/identities, etc. We
hope you'll take advantage of this opportunity to increase involvement within the MSE department and
expand your network
through participating in this program. For your convenience, the links are included below as well
