OUTREACH
- Members visited two second grade classrooms at Bates Elementary with student chapter Advisor, Prof. Jason McCormick, to get younger students excited about engineering. Graduate students worked with groups of 2 or 3 students using the free West Point software to design and test bridges using the basic concepts explained by Prof. McCormick.
- Members also aided Prof. McCormick in running a bridge design
workshop for the Xplore
Engineering Summer Camp hosted by the College of Engineering.
SEMINARS
- Prof. Judy Liu from Purdue University presented on Post-tensioned Column Bases for Self-Centering Moment Resisting Frames.
- Dr. Ramin Golesorkhi from Treadwell-Rollo lectured about the Development of Site-Specific Ground Motions from a Practitioner's Perspective. Dr. Golesorkhi visited as part of EERI's Friedman Family Visiting Professionals program.
- Prof. Tom O'Rourke from Cornell University presented his EERI Distinguished Lecturer presentation on the New Normal for Natural Disasters as part of a visit to the CEE department.
SEISMIC DESIGN
COMPETITIONS
- The first University of Michigan team to participate in the EERI Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition finished 12th out of 34 at the EERI Annual meeting in Anchorage, Alaska with their structure, The Wolverine Tower.
- The EERI student chapter organized the first undergraduate student design team that participated in the Bridge Seismic Design Competition to be held at the 7th National Seismic Conferences on Bridges and Highways.
