Access
Policy
The
University of Michigan Law School allows limited access to the underground Smith
Addition to the Law Library, and to the Legal Research stacks.
Only those who demonstrate a need to use the Library material may use the
Smith Addition. This policy ensures
that seating and assistance will be available to users, and ensures a quiet
research atmosphere in the Smith Addition.
General study:
Anyone may study in the Reading Room, which contains basic Michigan
Legal research material.
Circulation
Policy
The
Law Library is a research library and the books in the collection must be
available for immediate use. Therefore,
materials do not circulate out of the library. However, most books in the
Law Library may circulate to offices or carrels within the Legal Research
Complex if properly charged to such offices or carrels. Most materials housed in
the Main Desk/Open Reserve/EUDC collection on Sub-2 may be charged for 4-hour use
within the Addition although they may not be charged to office or carrels.
