"Tortitas" - Zulia Gotay
"Tortitas" was painted in the oil on masonite media 11. The painting shows the mother as the largest image, and the further
back the image is from her, the smaller it gets. The woman has much detail and pays much attention to the detail of her work. She is
the primary figure in the house. The man in the background has little to no detail and is much too much for accurate size. While all
other colors seemed to be blended together, there is actual shape and distinction in the woman.
"Tortitas" was chosen for the Family Gallery because it is one of few painting that are able to relay the image of the idea
Chicana as completely and eloquently as this painting does. The subject is expressed as everything a Chicana is expected to be: a
nurturing mother, a partner, and a homemaker.
