Welcome to the Computational Structural Simulation Laboratory (CSSL)
Extreme events, such as strong earthquake shaking, blast and impact can have a catastrophic effect on structures. There are many examples in history in which structural failures due to extreme events led to extensive loss of human lives and substantial economic damage. We are using experimental and computational modeling techniques to investigate how structural systems respond to extreme loading conditions. Our goals include developing models and theories for elucidating failure mechanisms, identifying the sources of collapse resistance, and investigating the potential of new materials and technologies, all with the purpose of discovering means by which to improve structural performance.
