drawing
im tired so this is going to be a lame update...april fools!...its going to be a great update!....double april fools!...its going to suck....trust me...but i had to go into work today to do some stuff and i figured id bring a drawing i started today to work on when i got bored...and, since i have a scanner at work, i figured hey, it might be interesting to scan the drawing at various stages...
i dont really draw that much so each time i do it is a learning experience...the last picture i drew of annabelle (the cutest little dog, ever) had very flat lighting so i didnt have to worry too much about drawing the texture of her hair...for the one im working on now tho the lighting is good and creates a lot of contrast so the texture of her hair is very apparent...so, the challenge for this drawing is to make her hair look like hair and not just pencil scribbles...
so, the first thing you gotta do is get an outline...this isnt the actual outline i drew from, but whatever, its an outline...
next thing i did was scribble in areas that needed to be shaded darker than other areas...then i smudged the scribbles to make flat shading...i always leave things like eyes and noses until the end so they dont get smudged while im drawing other things...
then i come back with a sharper, darker pencil and scribble some more
then i come back thru with an even sharper pencil and an eraser (for highlights)...for the following picture, i also modified the contrast and brightness after i scanned it in...
